Description
English: The Allied Forces invaded on Attu Island in the fog on May 12, 1943. The Japanese garrison on Attu stubbornly resisted. However, when the fog cleared, the defense bases were destroyed one after another by naval gunfires from battleships and the pinpoint attacks by aircraft. This gradually put the garrison at a disadvantage. The Japanese military headquaters sent a telegram to the Attu's garrison on May 20 in honor of its future annihilation. They continued to resist stubbornly, but were out of food. The garrison of Attu Island made numerous assaults on the night of the May 29. Although some broke through the front lines of the Allied Forces, the Allied Forces counterattacked, and the garrison of Attu Island was wiped out. The annihilation of the Attu's garrison was reported to be "Gyokusai" in Japan, making it the first Gyokusai in the Pacific War. https://al-from-japan.blogspot.com/2022/03/8.html
